The Truman Show- personal response
The Truman Show is a movie based on a man -Truman Burbank- who was adopted by a company the minute he was born, and filmed for the rest of his life where he was broadcasted all around the world . He went on living his life not knowing what was going on; he lived in a superficial world.
Truman lives as an optimistic person. As the audience we can see that he lives in a society called “Sea Haven,” where everything is fake, including the sand on the beach, as well as the citizens of the city. The director Christof believes that filming Truman is an inspiration and entertainment, but Lauren, a “real” girl Truman falls in love with, says it’s “sick”. To hypnotize Truman even more before he gets clues that his life is all a show, Christof conducts a sea storm, in which Truman’s father dies, giving Truman the phobia of water.
Later into the show Truman notices a few things: his wife is always advertising the products they have, the need for them to have a baby together, his father reappearing, and cast members eating in a fake elevator. Despite all of these facts, he still has his friend Marlon to help him and reassure problems. This however, causes Truman to discover his life some more, as everything seems to revolve around him. He tries to book a flight to Fiji to look for Lauren-his first true love-however, there are no flights available. This makes Truman more aggressive towards his wife and makes her cry; this is when she is off the show.
When Truman is by himself in the house in his basement, he sneaks out of the house and sails away on a boat, where Christof then conducts another storm. After battling the storm Truman continues on with his journey, where at the end he discovers the truth. Christof explains everything and tries to sweet talk him into staying, but Truman makes the right decision; his own decision.
It’s because of love, Truman went to the extent to explore his life. It’s because of Christof he never stopped.
