Freedom

January16

Freedom is something we all want and need. In the country we live in, we have a charter of rights and freedom to make sure that no body has the ability to take our rights and freedom away. Those freedoms are there for a reason and they are meant to stay. I believe that Tom Robinson should have gotten the same freedom and rights in the book. He had to go through a lot of things because of his race, and that isn’t fair, and shouldn’t have been allowed. Just because someone has a dark skin color doesn’t mean that they aren’t human, or don’t have any rights. It should be equal to everyone, but the people of Maycomb didn’t understand that back then. Now as we all know, things aren’t the same, which means those stereotypes and other things such as false accusations doesn’t work on people. If any false accusations do come up, everyone has rights to say what they have and then get something done, but with Tom Robinson, he had no rights to defend himself, and when he tried to, he was told that he was wrong. After getting sent to jail he decided to escape for his freedom, but he got killed. That was his fault and the fault of the person who killed him.

Freedom in our society varies through different cultures and their traditions. Some cultures have freedoms taken away because of the way their elders were brought up or the traditions that have been used in that culture. It may also vary on age, as a child we have less freedom, then into being a teenager, and finally an adult. But in some cultures freedom is doing what our parents want us to do and how they want us to behave.

Freedom can also be how we’re able to portray ourselves. Being able to do as we wish can show others who we are and how we act and behave around others. The way we behave also shows how we use our freedom, in a respectful way or in a disrespectful way. If we respect it, people will think of us as better people, then if we disrespect it. Disrespecting freedom will be ignoring what our loved ones have to say to us, and how they tell us how to behave. That may equal in losing freedom or having some restrictions.

Overall, we all have freedom, but its our choice to use it properly or to abuse it.

    Dear Gagan,
I like how you described what freedom for people like us in Canada is like in present day. In addition as a reader I was able to takeout your personal feelings towards the subject and motif of freedom. Another thing I also admired about your piece of writing is that you explored how freedom is in our everyday society around the world

A few things you could improve is going into more detail about freedom such as how it affects you personally. Another thing you could improve is using different type of diction to enhance the readings affect also to help portray your motif freedom in different ways. Overall very profound piece of writing.
    Sincerely,
    Sukhmeet
