Book Recommendation

January10

If I had to recommend any book, I would recommend “One Shot,” by Lee Child, especially for the action junkies. I read this book over summer break, and it was as though the book had cursed my eyes; I could not put the damn thing down!

This book has an intense writing style, with short, simple sentences showing the thoughts of the main character, Jack Reacher. Unlike many books that have longer, flowing sentences, this book is not smooth and very accurately illustrates thought processes. Furthermore, Lee Child’s descriptiveness allows for a reader to literally visualize the scenarios featured in the book, in terms of both the settings and the characters thoughts.

When the author describes the settings, he points out items in the area with painstaking detail, such as a jug of slushy juice. As he describes the jug and its contents, I felt the taste of the blue raspberry slushy and saw it shatter in my head. The extent of his imagery is quite incredible because it doesn’t only let you see what happens, but feel a rush of emotions and adrenalin as it happens.

When Lee describes the characters, their thought processes are outlined in short, simple sentences that keep everything concise. This approach, although unorthodox, shows the coldness and corruption in the antagonists’ minds as well as the justice and anger in our protagonists. Once you read through the descriptions, it genuinely feels like stepping into the characters’ skins and walking around, trapped in their perspective.

In conclusion, I would recommend “One Shot” by Lee Child because of the incredible descriptions and the intense story line. Furthermore, its unorthodox sentence arrangements keep the reader well-interested at every second, without ever a dull moment.
