Dreams

December2

I believe that dreaming does not reflect our subconscious desires.  I believe this because a while ago I had dream that my friend was a giant monkey chasing my sister around their backyard, and somehow I don’t think I wished that would happen because it was rather scary and discomforting.  I believe dreaming is just the effect of your imagination working.  Some people have active imaginations which can cause them to have dreams like the one said above.  For instance when my sister was younger she had this certain type of bed sheet on her bed that caused her to think that there were ants and spiders crawling all over her.  To me this is a result of the imagination not a subconscious desire, but yet again if you think about it could be the result of a fear so therefore dreams can be a result of your imagination working with your subconscious desires and fears.  A couple years ago I had dream that I was in the movie Avatar but instead of being in Pandora it was our school yard and all of my classmates and friends were out to get me.  They had flame throwers and were practically zombies; I think this specific dream was a result of my imagination working.  My position on dreams would then be that they can either be a result of your imagination at work or a result of your subconscious desires and fears. It all depends on what the dream consisted of and what your fears and desires are.

Changing Seasons

November25

I look outside,

At the twinkle on the ground.

I look outside, at the fluffy white flakes

Falling from the sky.

I look outside, at the piles of white snow

Like soft blankets lying on the ground.

I step outside,

And hear the crunch

Of the yellow and browns.

I take another step,

And see the leaves fall

Their stems to week to keep them bonded to the tree.

I take another step, looking down the street

The children laughing and jumping into to their gigantic pile of fallen leaves.

I stand outside,

And feel the heat hit my skin.

I stand outside absorbing the warmth

Radiating off the large orange ball floating in the sky.

I open my eyes,

And see my skin a tint darker than before.

I step outside, and smell the scents of plants

Filling my nose with delight.

Carrie

October28

Dear Grace,

From one non-reader to another, I suggest you read the book Carrie by Stephen King.  I know that you would like it because you enjoy scary movies and you have recently read the novel It also by Stephen king.  As someone who doesn’t like to read I know what it’s like to try and force yourself to read a book that is not interesting and boring, it is like someone singing you a lullaby.  I found this book to be very interesting; it’s a novel that you don’t need to force yourself to read.  When reading this book, you will find that the author goes into grave detail about what is happening in the story, therefore making this book more enjoyable to read and easier to picture and create an image of what is going on.

Through out this novel there is one evident topic of alienation showing through.  When reading this book you are experiencing part of the life of Carrie White, a teenager who is definitely not defined as being cool.  You get to experience her life second hand through this book, experiencing what she has to live through.  With that we see that she gets picked on and made fun of for being different than the others.  Being your friend and knowing you for a while now I know that to read about a girl growing up with a sort of super power, you will find it very fascinating.  I always remember us having our conversations about how we wish we could have a super power; with this book you get a little slice of what it would be like to have a super power.  Now you can live life through someone else’s eyes that has this skill.  Although Carrie has a power, she is not seen as normal and is picked on every day by the other kids in school.  One day, luckily for Carrie, it all turns around and she has something wonderful happen to her.  People start to realize that what they have done to her is awful and they start to treat her like a regular person instead of a disgusting animal.  All is good until some people start to take advantage of the kindness other people have given her and the whole world turns upside down in one horrific evening.

You would enjoy reading this book because there are parts in it that I have found just hilarious and I know that what I usually find funny, you will find funny as well.  The book is full of suspense and you will not need to force yourself to have to read this book.  The topic alone I found interesting and I know you will too.  So basically I think you should just read this book.

Yours truly,

Melanie
